Continuum explores the rhythmic echoes of place, memory, and change, and the persistence of familial stories across land and sea. This piece is an inquiry into what we carry with us, the internal vibrations that remain long after a journey has ended.

In dedication to my mother, the work traces a specific generational resonance, her migration from England to New Zealand and my own journey in reverse decades later. I inhabit the echo of her beginnings.

The spalting within the wood, an organic line of history, reflects connection and travelling narratives. It is a mark of change that lingers, cutting through the material just as our shared histories do through time and geography.

The near meter-long form is carved into distinct, undulating segments representing the chapters and distance between us, whilst the line of spalting within the wood remains a constant unifying thread. My children are now the living resonance of her journey, illustrating how the past continues to vibrate and shape a complex sense of belonging.
