ARTISTS OPEN HOUSES 2025

May - 3/4, 10/11, 17/18, 24/25 & May Bank Holiday Mondays.

Art House By The Postbox was a brand-new location on the Brighton Open House map in 2025, and I was delighted to be part of it. We were a mix of seven artists with diverse disciplines spanning painting, fabric, woodwork, ceramics, photography, printmaking and illustration. It was a wonderful month connecting with the local community and other artists in such a unique way, especially with the festival's well-established reputation drawing in curious art lovers.

Transforming a domestic space into an open gallery really shifts the dynamic between artist and visitor. It invites conversation and questions and allows potential buyers to meet artists and makers in a relaxed and welcoming space (and with cake).

In deciding what works to include, I opted for roughly 70% functional items and 30% sculptural. It was an interesting exercise, as sales clearly dictated that this market was interested in beautiful items that also had a functional use, rather than purely sculptural objects.

When the long-running building works at my home are complete, I may get involved in the AOH again by running an open workshop, so visitors can see where I make and the tools and machinery used.
